Liposuction is a technique to recontour areas of the body by removing
subcutaneous body fat through a few tiny (5 millimeter) incisions
adjacent to the areas to be treated. The technique relies upon the
overlying skin having sufficient elasticity to shrink down onto
the more slender shape. There are several variations in technique
and equipment, including the use of ultrasonic probes. There is
a considerable amount of marketing hype about liposuction
in some promotion material and the media.
Significant
changes require the removal of significant amounts of fat. Whilst
these results can be produced reliably and safely, this cannot be
achieved as a "lunchtime" procedure.
